Franco Brezzi will be visiting the SRI Uncertainty Quantification Center during the period Apr. 24 - May. 1, 2014.
Short bio.
Franco Brezzi has been professor of
Mathematics at the Politecnico di Torino (1975-1977) at the University
of Pavia (1977-2006) and at the “Istituto Universitario di Studi
Superiori (IUSS)” from 2006 to now.
He has been Director of the IMATI-CNR
(formerly Institute of Numerical Analysis) from 1992 to 2012, and
President of Italian Mathematical Union from 2006 to 2012.
Presently he is Vice President of the European Mathematical Society.
He is a member of the Istituto
Lombardo, Accademia di Scienze e Lettere (Milano), of the Accademia
Nazonale dei Lincei (Roma) and of the European Academy of Sciences. He
received the Gauss-Newton Medal from IACM in 2004, and the Von Neumann
Award from SIAM in 2009.
His scientific interests are mainly in
Scientific Computing, and mostly in Numerical Analysis of PDEs for
various applications. Recently he has been working on more
methodological aspects, as Discontinuous Galerkin methods, Co-chain
discretizations of differential forms and Virtual Element Methods.
